Haddam, Connecticut is located in the south-central region of the state, in lower Connecticut River valley. Haddam CT is a part of Middlesex County. It is home to Millers Pond State Park, where people can go hiking and mountain biking. However, as its name suggests, this reserve is most famous for its pond. A majority of the pond’s water comes from large springs. This makes Miller’s Pond unpolluted for trout, smallmouth bass, and other species of fish to swim in peacefully.

As per the U.S. Census Bureau the town of Haddam has a total area of 46.3 square miles of which 44.0 square miles of it is land and 2.3 square miles is water. Haddam is situated in Connecticut River valley and a majority of the town’s east border along side the Connecticut river. However, part of the border on the east side is the Salmon River, which makes the river separate the community of Haddam Neck from the rest of the town.

Haddam is the only town in Connecticut that has residents on both sides of the river.  The steel East Haddam Swing Bridge enables people to cross the river and get from one side of Haddam to the other.  Established in October, 1668, Haddam is the one and only town situated in Connecticut that is divided by the Connecticut River, the longest river in New England. It has 5 main villages- Hidden Lake, Shailerville, Tylerville, Higganum, and Haddam Neck.

The first four villages lie on the west side of the river while Haddam Neck is on the east side. The Connecticut River played a vital role for the first 2000 years of Haddam’s existence, and was a major source of transportation and income, as with most civilizations established near a major body of water. Nowadays, Haddam town is a residential community.
