Woodstock , Connecticut is located in Windham County, the northeast corner of the state. It shares its name with the town in New York as well as the famous Woodstock music festival held in 1969, despite having no connection to either of them. Woodstock CT is actually named after Woodstock, England and is the second largest town in Connecticut by landmass. Woodstock was originally a part of Massachusetts as the Mohegans sold Massachusetts the land in 1682.

The town was settled in 1686 by people from Roxbury, Massachusetts and so they called the town New Roxbury. Judge Samuel Sewall  was the one to suggest the name change in 1690 to Woodstock. It wasn’t until 1749 that Woodstock got incorporated and became a part of Connecticut. Woodstock started off as a farming community In the 18th century. However, in the 19th century, it grew in terms of industry and became known for its shoe factories.

However, Woodstock turned wound the clocks and went back to being largely a farming community in the mid-1800s.  Many wealthy east coast families used to visit Woodstock as it was a popular summer destination. One such place is a famous attraction even to this day. This is Roseland Cottage, which is a former summer home of the wealthy businessman Henry Chandler Bowen.
