Bridgewater, Connecticut is a town of Litchfield County where the Housatonic and Shepaug rivers meet. It is present in the southwestern Litchfield County and has a border with Fairfield County on the South and New Haven County on the Southeast.  Initially the Shepaug Neck Section, Bridgewater CT was incorporated in the year 1956, presumably getting its name due to the abundance of water and need for bridges in the region.

Bridgewater has long been an agricultural community based on dairy farming, tobacco and animal husbandry. However it has seen industrial development as well, albeit at a limited level. The main enterprises were the mail-order toiletries business of Charles B. Thomson in the 1800s and a hat making factory.  Bridgewater was the only dry town in Connecticut until voters approved the sale of alcohol in a 2014 referendum.

It is very close to New York and contains scenic wooded areas and locations beside Lake Lillinonah. Thus, it receives a lot of tourists from New York. This lake is one of the largest lakes in Connecticut, second only to Candlewood Lake. The Lake Lillinonah Boat Launch takes place in Bridgewater.

In the 1941 film The Lady Eve, there were lavish parties at a fictional town called Bridgefield outside New York. Thies town might be based on either Bridgewater, Ridgefield, or Brookfield as the names are similar and fit the demography of the time.
