The town of Bethany, Connecticut in New Haven County. The population was 5563 at the census of 2010. Bethany CT was first established in 1717. However, it was not until May 1832 that Bethany got separated from Woodbridge to become established as its own town. Bethany is a little remote and sparsely populated residential town that still retains its rural character. There is some agriculture and dairying and the town is dotted with many reservoirs that serves Naugatuck and mostly New Haven.

The Town Seal was made by local artist and Bethany resident, Betsy Seaton, as a part of 150th anniversary celebration of Bethany in 1982.  Bethany’s town seal is a circle within which there is a circle of rope. In the upper aspects of the seal, we can see the words ‘Town of Bethany Connecticut’ in two curved lines of print that borders the inner aspect of the rope circle.

On the bottom of the seal, there is the bordering of the inner aspect of the rope circle that shows the words ‘Incorporated 1832’. These words from the top and bottom edges of a third circle, the sides of which are made of a string of inverted oak leaves.

A roadway bisects the seal and extends from bottom to center is pictured within the innermost circle. There are 2 buildings on either side of the roadway.

In just two years (1997–1999), the town acquired 165 sections of land for the new Veterans Memorial Park. In 1999, the man-made Hockanum Lake at Veterans Memorial Park was opened for swimming. In 2000, the main Summer Sparkler was held there.
