Branford, Connecticut that is located to the east of New Haven. The 2010 census estimated Branford CT’s population at 28,026.

The United States Census Bureau also states that the total area of the town is 28 square miles. Out of this, 22 square miles is land and the remaining 6 miles is water.  The water bodies of the region are the Branford River, Queach Brook, and the Branford Supply Ponds.  

Development in the region started in 1852 after the construction of railroads. Some of the industries that grew in the region are Lockworks, Malleable Iron Fittings Company, and Atlantic Wire Company. The construction of the railroad also benefited The Stony Creek granite quarries.

In 1974, the Connecticut Hospice was founded in Branford. It was the first hospice in the United States.

The town became a resort area in the mid-19th century. Some of the famous hotels that opened in the area are the Indian Point House in Stony Creek, Montowese House in Indian Neck, and Sheldon House in Pine Orchard. However, the town lost its resort nature in the 20th century and slowly gathered the image of the northeastern suburbs.
