While voting for the adoption of the United States Constitution, Ellington was only represented by Ebenzer Nash. During the 19th and 20th century, many Jewish farmers came to the region and settled there. They built a religious monument called the Congregation Knesseth Israel synagogue that is still used by the Jewish locals of the region.

It is also present in the National Register of Historic Places. The community mainly relies on agriculture. However, many people visit the Crystal Lake during summer so it is a popular summer resort location.
