Lady bail bonds Litchfield city

Litchfield, Connecticut is a city in the county of the same name (Litchfield County). It is the northwest part of the state. Litchfield CT was incorporated in the year 1719, and the founders came from the Connecticut towns of Windsor and Hartford. They cleared land for farming and pastures and incorporated blacksmith shops, mills, and other small industries. The late 1700s witnessed Litchfield becoming a cultural and commercial center.

In the year 1784, Tapping Reeve started the country’s first law school. In 1792, Sarah Pierce started the Litchfield Female Academy, one of the nation’s first schools specially dedicated for higher education to girls. However, in the 1800s, industry started declining and the town became a quiet resort community. In today’s time, its Colonial and Colonial Revival-era architecture attracts tourists seeking traces of “Old New England”.

Litchfield was founded in 1719. The town has got its name from Lichfield, in England. During the American Revolution, many prominent loyalists were held prisoner in the town. These included William Franklin, who was the illegitimate son of Benjamin Franklin, and David Mathews, who was the Mayor of NYC.

In the year 1784,  the very first law school in the US was formed in Litchfield, Litchfield Law School. It was inaugurated by judge and legal scholar Tapping Reeve. Before its establishment, Reeve had agreed many legal apprentices since he had settled in the town in 1773.  Seeing such demand for law, he formally opened a one room school within a decade. During the fifty year history of the school, it would accept more than 1100 students, such as Jr. Horace Mann, Aaron Burr, and Levi Woodbury, who was the first justice of the US Supreme Court to have formally attended law school.
