Meriden, Connecticut is a city in New Haven County, United States. It is halfway between New Haven and the state capital of Hartford. Meriden CT has a total area of 24.1 square miles. In 2010, its population was 60,868. Meriden was an important site for innovation in the graphic arts. In 1888, Charles Parker and James F. Allen founded the Meriden Gravure Company. Gravure is short for photogravure. During this time, many mansions and houses began to spring up on Broad Street. 

Meriden is a place steeped in history. On 7th March 1860, Abraham Lincoln spoke in Meriden for the Republican presidential nomination. Meriden is a showcase for many main peaks of the Metacomet Ridge. The main peaks in Meriden include the Hanging Hills, Chauncey Peak, and Besek Mountain. 

Castle Craig is a historical landmark and tower in the city constructed among the Hanging Hills. On 29th October 1900, Castle Craig was built and dedicated to the citizens of Meriden by Walter Hubbard. In return, the people of Meriden named Hubbard Park after him. 

Castle Craig is a popular and simple hiking trail for the locals, while Hubbard Park in the Hanging Hills soon became one of the main public places.  Also, in 1903, the Curtis Memorial Library opened across from Meriden’s city hall.
