The town of Middlebury, Connecticut is in New Haven County. The population count as per the 2010 census was 7,575.  Middlebury CT was established in the year 1807 from former Southbury, Woodbury lands and Waterbury. The origins of the town’s name comes from the fact that it is situated in the middle or midst of these communities. Agriculture formed a big chunk of the town’s early economic base along with supporting small industries such as blacksmithing.

Then, the 1800s saw the rise of textile mills and an increase in the number of small factories. This would not continue as by the time 1900s rolled around, the industry had begun to decline and was instead replaced by dairying and saddle horse raising. In 1909, the Westover School for Girls arose in Middlebury. It was founded by Mary Robbins Hillard, and designed by Theodate Riddle Pope, one of the very first women architects in the United States.

Quassy Amusement Park is arguably the greatest attraction Middlebury has to offer. First opened in 1908, the park is one of the oldest amusement parks in the nation. Quassy boasts 38 rides and a water park, called Splash Away Bay. It is located on the Lake Quassapaug reservoir and swimming in the lake is also available at the park. Towns that Middlebury is in the middle of today are Woodbury, Watertown, Southbury, Waterbury, Oxford, and Naugatuck.
