The town of New Hartford, Connecticut is in Litchfield County. The population in the 2010 census was 6970, up from 6088 at the census of 2000. New Hartford CT is in the northwest corner of The Nutmeg State along with being 19 miles northwest of Hartford.The New Hartford Center is the census assigned place as per the Census Bureau. Along with the Center, the three key communities of New Hartford are Bakerville, Nepaug, and Pine Meadow, which has its own post office.
In 1686, the ‘Western Grant’ (of which New Hartford was a part) was offered to the proprietors of Windsor and Hartford. However, the town wasn’t settled until the 18th century, more specifically 1733. It was incorporated five years later in 1738. A portion of the Farmington River (called Satan’s Kingdom) runs through New Hartford. The early industry of New Hartford included farms and mills on the abundant waterways.
The Satan’s Ridge Ski Area opened in 1963 with various trails for skiing. It was later shed of its devilish name and changed to Ski Sundown. The ski area is still in operation. Another recreational place of interest situated in New Hartford for those less adventurous is Brodie Park. The town retains its early roots New Hartford today is still mostly a quiet and peaceful rural community consisting of farms, parks, and homes.
