Ridgefield, Connecticut is in Fairfield County. Ridgefield CT was settled by colonists from Norwalk and Milford who bought, purchased, and acquired land from Chief Catoonah in 1708. It was incorporated by Connecticut General Assembly in 1709. The Keeler Tavern Museum is an inn and museum of the region. The building contains a British Cannonball that was lodged on one side of the structure. Many other landmarks from the Revolutionary War can be seen on the town.

The Ridgebury section of the town was encamped by the French army in the summer of 1781. The first Catholic mass in Ridgefield was offered here.

In the 19th century, the Rockwells and the Lounsburys remarried and produced two governors of Connecticut. They were George Lounsbury and Phineas Lounsbury.

Phineas Chapman Lounsbury built the Ridgefield Veterans memorial Community Centre in 1896. It was later called the Lounsbury House. This also functioned as his primary residence. The Lounsbury Farm located near the Florida section of the town is the only operational farm in Ridgefield.

In the 19th century the town was regularly visited by wealthy people from New York City. They went there in large numbers and built summer cottages throughout the town. Some of the famous estates were Outpost Farm, Twixthills, Upagenstit, and Downesbury Manor. However, many of these unfortunately became unaffordable after the Great Depression and so were broken up.
